I made a fanmade mockup of what I think the new American Girl Historical character from the 1920s Harlem Renaissance, Claudie Wells, will look like! We learned a bit about the Harlem Renaissance at school yesterday, as well as more of what led up to it, so I will be doing a post on that probably tomorrow or the next day and a theory for her personality it inspired.
Here's my prediction image of what Claudie Wells will look like!
Obviously, the clothes aren't historically accurate, but I am not the greatest at graphic design.
I used a Makena doll as my base. Since Makena just released with a new mold, it would be logical for American Girl to use this mold for Claudie. The Addy mold has been used with Addy and the Sonali mold, which has been used for darker-skinned dolls often, has been used for Cecile and Melody, so using the Makena mold would differentiate Claudie from the others in terms of face mold, as well as finding another use for the new mold with African-American features.
I didn't do much with her eyes or her makeup because I made the mockup in approximately 10 minutes, but I would imagine she'd have less heavy makeup- a more natural look because historicals are 9-10 years old and Makena is 13. Painted eyelashes could be possible, however, because Nanea has those.
The change I did make in the design booth to Makena for my Claudie prediction, however, was her hair. I looked up hairstyles from the 1920s for Black girls and women, and most of them had a short curly look. I found a Beautifully Custom wig and edited it onto Makena, and ta-da! I had a theory image of what I imagine Claudie to look like.
I am so excited for Claudie to release this fall! Are you guys excited, too?
Yay. Another black doll!
I'm excited, but I think if she has Makena's face mold she will look way to much like Makena!
I'm so hyped for Claudie! I have been waiting for almost 20 years for a 1920s doll. I begged American Girl since I was a little girl. It feels like a dream come true!
Honestly, no new Historical AG releases will ever be the same. Nanea is the last actually good historical. Like I didn't even know what the Harlem Renaissance was until I searched it up, and I don't think its worth making a doll over.
i could see her looking like that! i hope she'll have a curly bob with an addy mold since that hasn't been used in a while :)
