I thought it might be to compete with Amazon prime deals / Target deals and the like this week. It wouldn’t make sense for them to compete with the benefit sale since it’s American Girl’s most celebrated charitable tradition. Also in July, most retailers are trying to clear out old inventory to make room for the new stuff coming in for the holidays (that’s how early many retailers start preparing for the winter holiday buying season). On top of that with all the shipping delays this past holiday season, so many retailers received their holiday inventory after the holiday gift giving season was over so they are all drowning in overstock right now and have even more product to move…
