The Doll of the Month for September 2024 is Lindsey Bergman!
Lindsey Bergman is from the Chicago area in 2001, who lives with her parents, her brother Ethan and her dog Mr Tiny. Her story revolves around how she just wants to help people out, but most of her attempts - such as getting two unknowingly married teachers to propose to each other, disrupting her school's Pet Parade, and trying to help her brother with his Bar Mitzvah - end in disaster. However, through the visit of her uncle Bernie and dealing with the consequences of her actions, Lindsey learns that there's more than one way to make a difference. Lindsey was the first Girl of the Year, first modern character ever, and first Jewish American Girl doll, and she was released in September 2001 and retired in mid-2002. Another fun fact: Summer McKinny is the first Girl of the Year to release in September since Lindsey!

Lindsey probably was not a best-seller from what I was told. Which is why she is hard to find. If they had expanded Lindsey's collection, they could have included her dog, Mr. Tiny, and a trumpet. As well as the trash can with smiley stickers, the party dress she wore at her older brother's Bar Mitzvah, some Matzo balls in which she got hit, her Perfect New World collage, and some of the T-shirts she wears in her book. Lindsey's collection is probably the smallest out of all the American Girl characters. It did not come with any outfits not like all the other characters. 2001 marked the beginning of the Girl of the Year line. Lindsey's story was most likely written pre-9/11, and we can assume her book takes places before September of that year. I imagine that Lindsey and all her friends, family, neighbors, teachers, and classmates would later learn about the 9/11 attacks that year. 😢 American Girl 18-inch doll characters are usually 10 years of age. Of all the Girl of the Year characters, Lindsey is the only one who was 10 at the time.
Lindsey is my favorite Girl of the year. Out of all the GOTY'S, she just feels the most real.
