This is the second part of my three-part blog series talking about the new Disney Princess American Girl dolls in-depth, focusing on the Ariel doll.
Ariel is from the 1989 Disney movie The Little Mermaid, which is based on the Danish fairy tale of the same name. In the movie, Ariel is a mermaid who is fascinated with life on land. She makes a deal with a sea witch to gain legs and witness life on land - but at the cost of her voice. While exploring the land, she must fight to break the curse, or else she will be silenced forever. The Little Mermaid story has spawned numerous direct-to-video spinoffs and sequels, two TV shows, and a live action movie that released in 2023.
American Girl describes Ariel as "inquisitive and determined" and as someone who "bravely dives into new adventures on her journey to find her place in the world".
The Ariel doll has the Nanea mold, light skin, aqua-colored eyes that open and close, and signature red wavy hair styled with sideswept bangs and a pink sea-flower hair clip with a yellow rhinestone center. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. She arrives in a mermaid-style dress with a glittery purple satin bodice and an aqua skirt with an iridescent scale print and a glittery green “fin.” The dress features an iridescent organza bodice overlay, ruffled glitter-mesh sleeves, a ruffled peplum waist with purple ribbon trim, and a glitter-mesh and organza ruffled hem. She also arrives in a golden-metal chain necklace with a seashell pendant, purple open-toe kitten heels with glittery faux seashells at the front and underwear.
In addition to her regular outfit, 2 other outfits are available - her Day Dress and Castle Ball Gown.
Stay tuned for a post about Tiana!
i love her hair and dresses! they look so silky soft! :D
I love Ariel!!! I am going to have to buy her🏖🏝🧜♀️
I love these Disney princess inspired dolls! My favorite one out of all 3 of them is the Ariel doll because Ariel was my favorite Disney princess when I was a child. She is still my favorite even to this day. I love her red hair and I love that she has aqua colored eyes. That's very appropriate for her too, because her eyes are like the ocean, just because of their color. Does anybody know how long these dolls will be out for? I am asking this because I am planning to get the Ariel doll, but I won't be getting her right away. I am planning to wait a few months before I actually buy her.
Ariel’s movie was the third Disney Princess dvd I ever owned. I loved Ariel growing up and would watch episodes of her tv series. I love Ariel’s pink ball gown the best. It matches her red hair. Walt Disney had wanted to adapt The Little Mermaid back in the late 1940’s but could not because the original fairy tale had a tragic ending. 🧜♀️
Nanea mold is not good on light dolls in my opinion. so she's my least favorite of the three.
