It's summer, which means time for outdoor activities, especially going in the pool. One commonly asked question, however, is if American Girl dolls can get wet or go in the pool.
American Girl made a plastic pool for dolls in 2019...
...but the answer to if dolls can go in the real pool or get actually wet is actually no!
While other dolls, such as Barbie, are even manufactured to go into the pool, American Girl dolls have important design features that would be ruined by getting wet. American Girl dolls have stuffed cloth bodies instead of plastic bodies like most dolls, and if the body gets wet, the stuffing inside of the doll might get moldy, giving the doll a weird odor. In addition, American Girl dolls have sleep eyes that open and close, and the eyes may rust if they get in water. For these reasons, it is recommended that your doll doesn't join you in the pool.
However, what if you accidentally drop your doll in water? AGTubers AGSmiless and Basilmentos both made videos in 2014 explaining what to do if your doll gets wet.
Has your American Girl doll ever gotten wet before? I am lucky that in my near-decade of collecting, they haven't gotten wet at all!
I went to do photography once with my newly customized doll Symonne and had her standing at the end of a lake where the tide would come in every now and then. Only her toes where in the water and it was a little windy. I was about to take a photo when she fell backwards into the lake getting her whole body and wig wet!!! Definitely not a good moment but she's okay now!
I don't usually have such literal dreams, but after reading this post, last night I dreamt that I had brought all my AG dolls to this building, set them up on stands on a table and left, and while I was gone sprinklers had gone off and they all got wet! Thankfully my dream self wasn't nearly as upset as I would have been in real life!
One time I left all of my dolls on a shelf in our basement, there was a pipe full of water right over the shelf and the pipe busted! Luckily I was able to dry all of my dolls, but I freaked out when I found out that all of my dolls got water on them!
My sister brought Joss out once, and the snow was all mushy and wet. She went down the sled with her and dropped her in a puddle of melted snow! We were able to fix Joss tho and now she's fine.
When my Mia doll arrived, she was left outside and it was pouring rain, and both her boxes (doll box AND shipping box) got extremely wet, and since she was my first ever doll, we (me and my family) didn't know AG dolls had a cloth body, so we had to scramble to get Mia dry. I remember her hair was soaked so I had to put a towel on her back to make sure her hair wouldn't wet her body again.
Luckily, she didn't get ruined from that, and none of my other dolls that came through the mail (basically all my dolls except Grace, Julie, and Tenney), were left outside or came on a very rainy day.
