I think I may have an idea why they changed the name. If you google "Claudie Jones" the first thing that comes up is a real person named Claudia Jones who was born in 1915 inTrinidad and moved to New York when she was 8 years old. Later she was a journalist in Harlem. I suspect that they don't want their doll to be too close in likeness to any real person from that time period, especially after the whole Luciana/Lucianne debacle. There is also an actress named Claudia Wells, but she was born in 1966 and is Malaysian.
Yeah, but Lea was before the Luciane lawsuit. After the lawsuit they may be trying to avoid another one. Plus the real life Claudia Jones was a controversial figure in Black American history...I think American Girl doesn't want any one to assume that they are inspired from that person.
I'm so excited about this Doll! I do like the flow of Jones better, but I know some Wells', so that's cool too. I like the end of alphabet last names!
My grandma's last name is Wells. I like both names though.
jones goes better with claudie, but wells is a unique last name! :)

Okay... I'm not sure why they'd do that, but oh, well!
