I know Blaire isn't even out yet, but my nerdy butt thought of a theory for Girl of the Year 2020 yesterday during my spine therapy. I decided to post it before I forgot about it!
So, the Summer Olympics always happen every four years. For example, 2004, 2008, 2012, etc. Why is this relevant, you may ask? American Girl always likes to do something Olympic-related for the Girl of the Year in Summer Olympic years. There has been three GOTYs released during Olympic years so far, and they all had Olympic connections.
In 2008, Mia liked to ice skate. Sure, that's a Winter Olympic sport, but it still counts! (And if you watch my YouTube, you should know that because Mia on Ice has three episodes right now!)
In 2012, McKenna was a gymnast, and her movie even aired on NBC, the channel that shows the Olympics!
Most recently, in 2016, Lea Clark went to Brazil. Brazil was also where the 2016 Olympics took place!
Why might this relate to the 2020 GOTY, you may ask? In 2020, the Summer Olympics will take place again, which means that probably one of these two options will happen:
-The Girl of the Year will be interested in a sport that is popular in the Olympics. Maybe gymnastics again since it will be eight years since McKenna that year, but swimming, karate or a ball sport could be options too.
-The Girl of the Year will have something to do with the country hosting the 2020 Olympics. This country has been confirmed to be Japan, so this might mean she will go to Japan or be interested in something that originates from Japan. Fingers crossed for anime or manga!
What do you think of this theory?
