First off, she's very stereotypical. Her major interests are bollywood and yoga, which is very stereotypical of Indian culture. Like, they could have given her any interest, but thry went with a stereotype. I understand she has some other major interests too, but it doesnt really help. And despite how important her culture is to her story, her collection only features one traditional Indian item. (Which I will likely not get as the other Indian outfit in recent AG history stains dolls bodies.)
Her skin tone actually is a stereotypical issue too. Most Indian people have much darker skin than Kavi does. Bollyood performers, on the other hand, are usually much lighter skinned than average. American girl could have broke this stereotype and let it be known that people of all skin colors could do anything, but no, they chose to give her lighter skin than most Indian people.
This is more of a minor thing, but I still want to mention it. Usually with their character dolls, AG has models that look very similar to the doll model for that collection. But if you go to Kavi's page on the website, you can see the models are white. I get it if they want to show anyone can have this doll, but making this transition now feels wierd.
This is just my opinion from first impressions. As I learn more about her they may change. But I just wanted to share with you all my thoughts and see what you think.
I never thought I’d enjoy being scared, but horror games changed that for me. There's something thrilling about walking through a dark hallway, flashlight flickering, and hearing a sound behind you. It’s terrifying and addicting all at once.
