The Cartoon Network executive recently said something really sexist about animation and live action.
"Girls often graduate out of animation, that's why we're making more single and multi-cam live-action movies to target towards the girls without alienating the boys." (I may not have gotten that completely correct, but it's incredibly close to his statement.)
Okay, so basically,
CORINNE IS BEING MADE IN LIVE-ACTION BECAUSE CARTOON NETWORK THINKS THAT GIRLS DON'T LIKE ANIMATION.
This is absolutely ridiculous and I hope that American Girl notices what Cartoon Network is truly doing with the new Corinne film. I was excited, but I'm scared that CN is going to lead American Girl into something much worse for what they wanted this movie to by made for.
WHAT!?!? This hurts, especially as a feminist… SO RUDE!!! (Must be a guy…)
Really. I love animation. I mean, people think girls media should have less effort then boys. Why is Male being treated the norm when there is more slighty woman then men in the world.
When I’m an adult, I’m gonna give American Girl the Marvel Cinamatic Universe treatment.
im guessing the executive is a guy?? as a feminist this is really maddening but on another hand, (this is a joke btw) maybe they think girls are too mature for animation! ;) (again, JOKE) but yeah thats horrible!! I LOVE animated movies they are so cute! and often funnier than regular movies!
I am disappointed though. The new leadership at Cartoon Network has been very conservative. I am a fan of Infinity Train, which is an EXTREMELY good show on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, but it got cancelled halfway through the show because these executives didn’t think it had a “child entry point” because one of the seasons (it’s an anthology, meaning each season follows a different character) was going to focus on an adult woman. Said adult woman was a character who’s been in Infinity Train since the first season and who’s backstory the fans of the show have been waiting for forever. That just shows how pretentious the executives are. They don’t understand viewers at all- just stereotypes.
I honestly think AG had good intentions, yet Cartoon Network had other ideas on their marketing of the movie. If it makes you guys feel better, Cartoon Network wasn’t involved in this production- it was Mattel and an independent company. It’s only airing on Cartoon Network and streaming on HBO Max.
Wow, that's mean! American GIRLS new movie is being made by people who are stereotyping GIRLS! I also thought this was being made by HBO Max, as in original, but guess not.
The Corrine movie is being made by Cartoon Network?
Just so people know, I was only recently informed about this, so I don't think that American Girl knew that Cartoon Network was going to make a statement that went against their purpose: Girls united, girls can do anything.
