Chapter 3
Briar Ridge & Jessica
The car ride to Briar Ridge was quiet and peaceful. Jessica, somber and grim decided it was time to start conversing near the end of the long drive.
"Well, here we are. Briar Ridge. Oh, and just so you know, everyone just calls it Briar. Soon you'll meet my friends! There's Paulie, she's a really good artist, Lenore, and Addigail. But she just goes by Adie. There's also Ricky Moonstone, and oh boy, I wish he was my friend. He. is. so-" "Jess, you wish much more than him being your friend." Her mother said with a chuckle as Jessica glowered at her from the back seat. "Jess has a huge crush on this kid Ricky. He's a good kid. His sister is a senior at Briar High School, and she just got home from a foreign exchange program in Denmark. Real fancy. She had to get a job at the Pantages in LA to pay the wage. You'll probably get to meet them soon!"
"Omigod, Denmark?! It is SO PRETTY there! I went there when Dad was shooting this Netflix series, it won like five Oscars. But anyway, when I was there I met Arianna Grande and talked her out of buying this truly horrible top. It was lime green, SO out of style. Whoever said that lime is the new sage was seriously disturbed." Ari replied. Her mother chuckled, confirming that this is the Aracely that she remembered.
As the car pulled into a cobblestone paved road at the end of a long stretch of forest, Ari had time to take in her surroundings. It was almost like nothing had changed in the nine years that she had been with her father. It was a breathtaking little village, with roads surrounded by shops and cottage-style houses. Though lacking skyscrapers, police sirens, and other big-city elements, it had character and looked like it was straight out of a fairy tale. It was bigger than Ari expected, but the population, as she read on the town sign, was 3,000. They had the usual necessities, a Target and a Whole Foods, but other than that, it was mostly local places that the town relied on for food and clothing. Though fairylike, the town was also home to larger houses, such as the Mayors house, and others. But the Mckellan house was probably the largest. They pulled into the driveway, and and Ari was shocked.
