Rubi struggles with the loss of her best friend who died of cancer. She stops talking to people and making friends, but the new girl down the street convinces her to join the softball team. (I don't know that's the best story I could come up with.)

Rubi‘s parents are divorced. she’s been begging for a dog since the beginning of time, but her mom doesn’t have enough time or room and her dad’s new wife is allergic. Besides, she’ll only Be able to see him every other week!

but when she was little, she was promised that when she was ten, she could get a dog. even tho that wuz before the divorce, no one mentioned it. When Rubi’s tenth birthday rolls around she’s diappointed to receive only sports supplies. the lack of dedication seems to threaten her participation on the soccer team, and Rubi’s parents are worried at how little their extrovert has been socializing. Can Rubi make a comeback before the game is over?

Rubi Ann Smithens lives in New York City. She enjoys sports, but air pollution makes it unsafe for her and other children to play the things they love. One day, Rubi and her friends organize a citywide cleanup act so that NYC is as nice as it was once apon a time.
