so, I've had this idea for a while, because for some reason there are no how-to fix dolls posts on here, (keep in mind there are tons on YouTube if you want a visual, highly recommend AGSmiless and foreveranddollways) this'll be a 'series' and we'll cover scuffs, wig removal, limb tightening, cleaning vinyl, and other stuff I can't think of at the moment, today, as you see if you read titles, we're doing hair straightening and restoring and making the hair soft
(we'll have pictures in future posts hopefully)
gather your supplies
find a sink with either a large counter or a floor big enough to spread out you're doll and other supplies (this is actually pretty important, did this once with a cup of water, did not end up well)
you'll need
(to clean the hair)
a sink (obviously)
shampoo (unscented unless you want you're doll to smell like peppermint forever, use baby shampoo if you can because it's softer on their hair)
conditioner (if you have wig conditioner (but who does?) use it, otherwise mild conditioner will be best)
a towel (because no one wants a sopping wet floor)
(to straighten the hair)
a misting spray bottle (the most important item!!!)
a straightener or curling iron (it actually doesn't matter which)
step 1
only use shampoo if the doll's hair might be dirty, some shampoos are harsh and can damage the hair if it's used too often. use the shampoo ONLY on the ends of the hair, if you get the wig cap the glue can loosen and your doll's wig can fall off. Let it sit for a couple minutes, four is good, and then wash it out.
step 2
use conditioner in small sections of hair, use a little bit more than you think you should, DON'T GET THE WIG CAP WET!! if the doll's hair is knotted this is usually the best time to brush it out (but if you're me you brush it out while it's super wet weft-by-weft and it takes forever) let it sit for 30 minutes, watch YouTube, read evermore, then come back and rinse it out. If you feel like you should condition it again, go ahead and do so
step 3
put your curling iron/straightener on the lowest possible setting!!!! YOU DO NOT WANT BURNT DOLL HAIR!
step 4
don't let the hair dry before you straighten it!! wrap the doll's body in a towel and section off the bottom wefts (wefts are the tiny sections that the hair is sewn in) make sure the hair is damp, if it isn't use the spray bottle. brush through a tiny section (I have a toothbrush dedicated to doll hair) and then straighten the hair quickly, you might need to do the ends again, if you do spray them down. pull the iron over the ends. after the one weft is done move on to another until the whole row is straightened, clip it away in front of the doll's face and take down another section, and repeat.
be warned, the first time I did this it took an hour and a half you need patience and remember to keep the hair wet because burnt/ melted doll hair is not good.
yay! we're done
