Corinne’s Grown Up Story:
Renovations
Doll: Corinne Tan GOTY 2022
Year this takes place: 2028
Age: 17
Born: September 13, 2011
Corinne smiled, she was just finishing her Ski Dog training. The air around her was frigid and her hands were numb. "Well goodnight, see you tomorrow,'' her Coach told her. She got her stuff and saw Gwynn. "Hey!" Gwynn said. Corinne smiled.
When they arrived back at home Arnie opened the door and let Flurry inside.
"I have some tough news to tell you," Arnie said. Corinne's mom was sitting on the coach. They walked over and sat down next to her.
"It can't be too bad, it's not like they are closing the lifts," Gwynn said.
"um...... " their mom trailed off as if she got lost in the woods, that had happened to Corinne years ago. "they are." "WHAT!" Corinne and Gwynn said at the same time. Their voices were as loud as the Ice skating rink when it was open hours. "They didn't do enough renovations in the summer, and so the lifts aren't ready for this season." Arnie said. "But, but, but...." Gwynn stammered, "we always ski together, it's a tradition." She continued. "Well there's nothing we can do," Arnie said.
When Corinne and Gwynn went into their Ski Chalet decorated bedroom Corinne whispered to Gwynn. "We need to do something. We can't just stand here doing nothing, we can't ski." Corinne said. "Well you do have apps for your colleges," Gwynn jokingly said. "But yes we should do something, something big." Gwynn announced.
Corinne and Gwynn wanted to do something, but what? Nothing seemed to work because they did know the lifts did need renovations. “Well,” Corinne said as they were sitting in their bedroom. “We could try to make the work go faster,” Corinne continued. “No, they won’t do it for us, I mean we are kids,” Gwynn said. “Just a few more months and I am an adult,” Corinne said. “Okay.” Gwynn said. The two ate and thought for a while until Corinne excused herself to work on her homework. “All I have to do is read 18 pages of my book,” She was reading, Lila Monetiit’s girl of the year 2024’s book 2. She got to pick her book to read and her teacher said it was fine, although it was only 80 pages.
Gwynn couldn’t sleep all she could think about was; No skiing. No. This couldn't be real, it was a nightmare right. Wait. She sat up in bed, the answer was obvious. She bolted down her top bunk ladder, and went outside, Corinne of course was doing college applications. “What school’s are you applying to anyway? You spend half of your day every day doing whatever they are.” Gwynn said. It came out a little raw. “Shh!” Gwynn’s mom said. I got it! I got the answer!
Corinne sat up. “What is it?” “um…..” Gwynn didn’t know what to say, should she continue and disrupt or go back to bed. “Gwynn sweetie, it's eleven fifty two.” Arnie said. “why!” Gwynn said in her cutest voice, she would have to wait till tomorrow…
In the morning Gwynn bolted up. She could tell Corinne the answer. She raced down the ladder of the bunk. Oh! Realization hit her. “You have to let Corinne sleep, college takes a lot of work!” Gwynn said in her head. She heard it in an annoyingly sweet voice. She walked out of her bedroom, Corinne would probably sleep till eleven? When would she get up? Gwynn was an early riser for her age, 13 and so this was hard. ‘Be patient, be patient Gwynn.’ She thought inside her head.
Finally……………. Corinne woke up. “CORRINE! CORINNE!” “She just woke up,” Arne said. “Good morning,” he continued. “What’s the answer?” Corinne said.
“We march up the mountain ourselves!!!” Gwynn grinned. Her answer was amazing. Check! They were skiing this season! But they didn’t know what trouble lay ahead of them…
“Wait What?” Gwynn said they were skiing, skiing ment walking up the mountain. “Okay, Well this is not that fun.” Corinne replied, “I mean for more than half the time I am caring for your skies as well as mine and walking up a mountain.
After they went home that night Arne looked at Corinne, we have some good new he said, “What, What?” Gwynn asked. “We are going to Denver to ski this season!” Arne laughed, Judy, Corinne’s mom smiled, we thought Corinne's last full winter here had to be special!” Gwynn and Corinne hugged, “And we are leaving tonight!” Judy said, “Two hours to pack, that’s not enough time to pack!” Gwynn said then raced up the stairs. “And we have to pick up Blix from their camp. They went too for winter break!” Arne shouted into the distance.
Awe this was such a sweet story! I loved it!
