This is a reallllllyyyy weird post, but I've been making these mood boards for AG characters and thought you guys might like to see them (mostly I needed someone else to geek out about these other than my friend who isn't in the AG fandom and doesn't listen to Hozier). Lately, I've been listening to a ton of music by Hozier, and I had a weird dream where someone made a meme that combined Caroline and the song Take Me to Church, so I'm riding down the slide of insanity and turning this into a thing. These are the ones I've made so far! I've been picking out a Hozier song to go with each AG character, picking a quote from the song, and then using images from Pinterest to make a mood board. I have literally dedicated a page in my AG notebook to this so I am very serious about this project lol. (The fact that I have an AG-dedicated notebook scares me.) These aren't really kid's songs, so if you decide to listen to them, just don't throw rotten tomatoes at me. Thanks. :)
Felicity x Cherry Wine
"The blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine."
I'm not even joking, y'all--- I have notes as to why these songs fit. For Felicity, I chose Cherry Wine because Cherry Wine is a song about abuse. It reminded me of the way Felicity bonds with Penny, who was being abused by Jiggy Nye, as well as the relationship between Britain and the Colonies at the time of Felicity's story.
Samantha x Eat Your Young
"It's quicker and easier to eat your young."
You cannot convince me that Eat Your Young isn't the perfect song for Samantha. It's a song about capitalist greed and oppression of the lower class, which is literally what Samantha stands for! (Eat Your Young is also my favorite song, like, ever)
Melody x Almost (Sweet Music)
"Be still my foolish heart, don't ruin this for me."
For Melody, I mostly chose Almost (Sweet Music) because it has a lot of references to older songs. That's a very lame reason, but I cannot think of any character it would be better for.
Kirsten x Too Sweet
"You're too sweet for me."
Okay... let me tell y'all... I have been very high-key obsessed with Too Sweet since it came out, and something in my brain connected Kirsten to Too Sweet, and now, whenever I hear it, I think of Kirsten. Too Sweet is about living your life the way you want to live it, and I immediately think of Kirsten's "unsweetened" lifestyle on the frontier whenever I hear it.
Claudie x I, Carrion (Icarian)
"I do not have wings, love, I never will."
I chose I, Carrion (Icarian) for Claudie because of the metaphor she makes about people she sees as talented being able to fly. This song takes the idea of flying at a different approach, but I liked it for her.
Julie x Nina Cried Power
"It's not the wakin', it's the risin'."
Like Samantha and Eat Your Young, there could not be a better match for Julie than Nina Cried Power. If you've ever listened to the song, it's basically self-explanatory.
Rebecca x Foreigner's God
"But still my heart is heavy with the hate of some other man's beliefs."
I was stuck on Rebecca until I decided to pair her with Foreigner's God. This song reminded me so much of the way Rebecca deals with trying to fit into "American" culture.
Josefina x Wasteland, Baby!
"All the things yet to come are the things that have passed."
I'm iffy on whether Wasteland, Baby! is a good song for Josefina, but it felt like a good match. Wasteland, Baby! is a very tender love song, and some of its parts I thought reflected Josefina's grief over her mother. Plus, you know, the song got stuck in my head after making this mood board. It be like that sometimes.
Kaya x Wildflower and Barley
"I can smell summer on its breath."
Pairing Kaya with Wildflower and Barley just seemed natural. The aesthetic of the song was perfect for Kaya, in my opinion.
So yes, thank you for coming to my TED talk. :)
