Ok, the title may sound like I’m just trying to get you to read this, but I’m telling the dead truth. About 7 years ago, a petition was started against Addy Walker for portraying slavery. Yes, you read it right, for portraying slavery?!? And according to a Petitioning website, there were 60 supporters! Okay, so maybe your thinking they might have a point, so what was there reason to stop production and sales of Addy Walker? That, ’they glorify slavery and make it seem like some action-packed adventure.’ Well, a supporter commented on the petition saying, ’African-American women have advanced in society, so should the doll representations.’ But, AG doesn’t make slavery all pretty pink princesses, in fact, they handled the subject very well in a way for people of all ages to enjoy. But, the story isn’t saying that slavery was good, the story is to show slavery through a nice doll. Although I do agree that, yes, African-American women have advanced in society, but we need to remember the past in order to have a bright future. Why should a great role model be taken away from the world?
